Awareness Programme on Light Rail Transit System(LRT) was held at Ministry of Highways & Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development on 28th of August 2019. The Session was conducted by the Project Director of the LRT Project, Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development. All the staff officers of the Ministry of Highways & relevant officials of the RDA participated to the event.
The Light Rail transit project is a project conducted by Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development with the financial assistance of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). The total length of the Project is approximately 16 km and it consists of 16 stations. The trace starts from Chandrika Kumarathunga Mawatha of Malabe and extends up to Colombo Fort through Pettah Multimodel Transport Hub.

Maximum Speed – 80km/h
Gauge – 1435mm
Capacity of a train – About 800 persons
